The clutch is one of the most important elements of your vehicles driving operation.
Read moreThis video is of a 2006 Toyota Prado Turbo Diesel manual with roughly 225,000kms on the clock. The owner was experiencing trouble selecting reverse gear, which caused a crunching noise. You can see some of the process involved in accessing the clutch to replace the damaged parts.
A clutch comprises a circular metal plate lined with friction material attached to both sides. This material enables the clutch to engage with the flywheel and pressure plate, facilitating power transfer from the engine to the gearbox. Moreover, the clutch permits the engine and transmission to disengage, enabling the engine to run independently. This disconnection occurs when the driver depresses the clutch pedal or when the gearbox is in neutral. Consequently, smooth gear transitions are achieved while the vehicle is in operation.
